From the initial design phase, working with designers, consultants, and engineers through final inspection and turn-on, SESCO’s team will work to produce a perfectly coordinated project for you.
The following describes LCD’s involvement on a typical project such as a middle school with an auditorium:
The engineer receives the building footprints and section views from the architect and gets ready to select the lighting for the project. He/she is probably working with someone from the SESCO Commercial Lighting Division to pick out house lighting fixtures for the auditorium. At this point the engineer might ask if there is someone with SESCO who can help with the theatrical lighting and dimming for the school auditorium.
Enter the Lighting Controls Division. . . We begin with the layout and placement of the connector strips and wall boxes. Then we help the consultant choose and lay out the theatrical fixtures, theatrical and architectural control stations and emergency transfer (if required). We can also help with low voltage riser diagrams and specifications.
When the project comes out for bid you can be assured that nothing will be missing from SESCO’s quote. If we are successful and win the project, our project manager will expedite the submittal process and track shipping information. She will even schedule our field service technician to make a preliminary visit to the job site to talk with the electrical contractor about the installation. Once the dimming system is installed, our technician will be scheduled to provide an on site check out, connect the low voltage terminations for the control stations (if asked) and supply owner training. And, if you need additional training or a spare lamp, we will provide it to you. If you specify SESCO products, you will never have to worry about the small stuff. SESCO’s Guarantee takes the ill out of illumination.
We look forward to providing you with the world class service that every one of your projects deserve. Contact SESCO’s Lighting Controls Division. . . WE MAKE IT ALL WORK TOGETHER! |
| What Is A Theatrical Dealer? |
 |
A theatrical lighting dealer sells and services theatrical lighting products and expendables (i.e. lamps and gels). Theatrical dealers sell lighting fixtures and effects equipment, including moving lights and follow spots, fog machines, rigging systems, pipe grids, specialized gobo rotators and color changers. Many also do “systems” sales which includes dimming and control systems.
Many theatrical dealers will have a systems integrator or a systems integration group on staff. Some will have systems integrators, project managers, and field service technicians, all working together to make the purchase and installation of lighting, rigging equipment and systems as easy as possible. The theatrical dealer will act as point-of-contact for all of the various manufacturers and contractors who might work together on the dimming and control systems.
Most theatrical dealers handle a variety of equipment from many manufacturers. For example, some will stock more than one manufacturer’s colored filters/gel, so you do not have to use Rosco gel if you prefer Lee. Most will also keep some quantity of lighting fixtures in stock for last minute purchases, or can help expedite orders from the factory. Because they stock equipment, most dealers can provide product demonstrations either at their facility or on site. Many people who work for theatrical dealers have experience in the performing arts and are very knowledgeable about the equipment the end user may need.
Many theatrical dealers also handle rental and/or production: you can rent the equipment you need to produce a show, or even have the dealer’s personnel install, run, and strike the show for you. |
| What Does A System Integrator Bring To The Table? |
 |
A systems integrator has expertise in specialized systems and how those systems communicate with each other. They can integrate all components of the theatrical dimming, control, fixture, and rigging systems from multiple manufacturers into a cohesive design to provide versatility and years of outstanding service.
Unlike an electrical contractor, who may work installing high-bays one day, compact fluorescent downlights the next, and a Cat5 network system the following day, theatrical systems integrators only deal with performance lighting and rigging equipment. They have great expertise in a highly specialized segment of the construction industry; expertise which is not shared by most general and electrical contractors. Systems integration includes providing complete risers and installation instructions for the electrical contractor, systems commissioning, testing, and training. In addition, they can provide personnel to hang and focus theatrical lighting fixtures with which some electrical contractors have little or no experience. Many systems integrators are experienced designers and stagehands and prefer working in a creative environment.
Because systems integrators provide a single point-of-contact for the performance lighting equipment, that translates to less time spent on the phone dealing with multiple manufacturers and other vendors for warranty or other service issues. Systems integrators generally have trained technicians on staff to assist with installation and troubleshooting issues. Their vast knowledge of theatrical equipment and practices make them an invaluable part of planning, implementing, and maintaining performance lighting and rigging systems. |
