Allen Weiss is a graduate of Drexel University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Allen is both an LC and PE by examination and is presently registered in six states (Florida, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and North Carolina).
Allen has personally designed or supervised over 30 million square feet of facility lighting, many for Fortune 500 clients. Additionally, he has worked on the lighting design of several major roadway, tunnel and bridge projects including Orlando, Florida's East-West Expressway and major portions of Charleston, West Virginia's interstate highway system.
Several of his lighting designs have merited design awards through the IESNA and Architectural Record. A list of his lighting design projects is available upon request.
Allen has taught lighting design at Pittsburgh's La Roche College as well as lectured on several lighting design topics through his affiliation with the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America and served as Section Chairman of the IES in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Richard ‘Trey’ Wiley is a graduate of The University of Kansas with a BS in Architectural Engineering and an emphasis in lighting and electrical systems. Trey is both a LEED AP BD&C accredited professional and a PE by examination and is presently registered in six states (Kansas, Texas, Nevada, California, Florida and Georgia).
Trey’s career as a lighting designer and electrical engineer has spanned nearly twenty-ﬁve years. He has worked on a wide variety of projects including Healthcare (from hospitals to assisted living), Hospitality (from boutique hotels to large chain brands), Retail (from restaurants to big box retail), and Education (both K-12 and Higher Education). He has designed or supervised projects in nearly every state in the union as well as projects in Mexico, China and Qatar. A list of his lighting design projects is available on request.
Trey has worked on several lighting projects that have merited award. In 2013 the Troost Bridge at Brush Creek project, located in Kansas City, Missouri, was awarded the 2013 IES International Lighting Award of Merit and his work on the Women’s Leadership Fountain in Kansas City, MO was awarded an IES Section Lighting Award. His work on the new Wichita Airport has been submitted for an IES award as well. Trey has been an active member in IES throughout his career. He has served as Vice President in the Kansas City, Missouri Chapter and was section president in Wichita, Kansas for several years.

Course Title: Innovations in Solid State Lighting (LEDs)
Course Description: An introduction to light emitting diodes (LEDs) including an overview on how solid state lighting creates light. A discussion on the various benefits and challenges pertaining to LED's. Examples of new LED technology, design strategies, and applications using LED lighting fixtures in Architectural Lighting.
Course Title: Light Lamps and Ballasts
Course Description: The lecture begins with a discussion on the visible light spectrum and key lamp terminology such as CRI, Kelvin temperature, efficiency, lumens, and footcandles. A more detailed discussion will be held on the evolution of lamp sources, the type of lamps available for architectural lighting, and finally ballasts, drivers, and transformers needed for particular lamps.
Course Title: Sustainable Lighting Design - For Exterior Applications
Course Description: An overview of the three main elements of Light Pollution which include light trespass, sky glow, and glare, as well as methods to reduce it. An analysis on the creation and importance of a candela distribution curve and how it pertains to site lighting applications. An overview of IESNA's exterior lighting cutoff classifications, distribution curves and an introduction to Lighting Zones. Finally, a synopsis of current Sea Turtle legislation and LEED-NC's Sustainable Site Credit 8.
Course Title: Lighting and Life Safety
Course Description: The life safety requirements regarding emergency egress lighting and exit sign lighting. The lecture concentrates on the current NFPA Life Safety Code - Chapter 7.
Course Title: Landscape Lighting
Course Description: Application of current landscape lighting practices, including new lamp and fixture technology, as well as techniques for lighting softscapes, hardscapes, and water features.
Course Title: Architectural Lighting Controls
Course Description: Overview of current code issues regarding controls for the States of Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. An introduction to the types of controls available such as occupancy/vacancy sensors, photosensors, relay control panels, low voltage switches, astronomical time clocks, touch screen, and building energy management systems. Finally, the benefits and energy savings pertaining to lighting controls.
Course Title: The Real World (How the Bid Process Really Works)
Course Description: A working knowledge of the design, construction, and supply chain of lighting products in the construction industry. The pros & cons of several lighting specification methods such as one name and multi-name specs. Finally, a discussion on the lack of value in value engineering and how to control substitutions and value engineering and why it's the best interest of the client to do so.
Course Title: The Currrent Energy Code (Various versions)
Course Description: A working knowledge of the current Energy Code pertaining to lighting power consumption and controls for Commercial Buildings. A discussion on the types of spaces included and exempted from the code. Review the mandatory interior and exterior lighting power consumption as well as the mandatory lighting control requirements.
Course Title: Healthcare Lighting
Course Description: An overview of the current Healthcare lighting issues and criteria. A general overview of lighting terminology related to Healthcare lighting. A discussion of the various Healthcare spaces and lighting techniques for each.
Course Title: Sustainable Lighting Design for Interiors
Course Description: Coherent lighting design reveals architecture, enhances the human experience and may be the single best way of reducing the energy attributable to the act of seeing in an otherwise darkened space. The lecture will discuss codes, the quality issues of lighting design, sustainable alternatives as well as energy and toxicity.
Course Title: Hospitality Lighting
Course Description: A discussion on how best to light entrances, hallways, ballrooms, meeting rooms, kitchens, bars, dining rooms and the pool area. Issues surrounding energy and sustainability will be discussed.
